Joining greek life on your college campus gives you leadership opportunities, community service hours, and is a great way to network. It helps you to be more social on campus, by getting you involved in social activities such as; formals, greek week, and "mixers" with different fraternities/sororities. Alumnae in the organizations can provide great connections for when you graduate and they also provide you with a lifelong sisterhood/brotherhood. I know greek life isn't for everybody, but I just wanted to shed some light on the positives of it, instead of the negatives for once.

SRU's Greek Life

Slippery Rock has both social and business fraternities and sororities on campus. There are a total of 15 greek life organizations on campus. A list of all of the sororities/fraternities are as followed: Alpha Omicron Pi, Alpha Sigma Tau, Alpha Xi Delta, Delta Zeta, Kappa Alpha Psi, Kappa Delta Rho, Kappa Sigma, Phi Sigma Sigma, Pi Kappa Alpha, Pi Kappa Phi, Sigma Sigma Sigma, Theta Chi, Theta Xi, Zeta Phi Beta. Slippery Rock's greek life is great, because they have a no hazing policy, which makes for a more accepting and genuine community. Greek Life at SRU is a family and I promote everyone to go greek!

Dela Zeta

The sorority that I am involved in is, Delta Zeta. So, today I am going to tell you all a little about my sorority and how the sisterhood got started and the good we do. Delta Zeta was founded in 1902, by six young women that were students at Miami University. On Slippery Rock's campus we were founded on March 23, 1963 and have been successfully thriving for 56 years now. We are not just a sisterhood though, we do much more than that through all of our partnerships and philanthropy work we do. Our two national partnerships are with Starkey Hearing Foundation and The Painted Turtle Camp. The chapter at Slippery Rock conducts events to raise money for these two incredible organizations. Being able to give back to people in need is one of the most rewarding things and I am glad to be apart of something bigger.

Greek Life

I know there is a stigma surrounding Greek life, but it doesn't have to be that way.  People assume and jump to conclusions, on what they hear before going into college and while they are there. Greek life is not about partying and hazing, it is about lifelong friendships and giving back to the community. I have had nothing but positive experiences with being in a sorority on the SRU campus. Greek life is a community and a family at Slippery Rock, so quit the stereotypes and give it a chance, you never know unless you try!
